Limited options for food at restaurants and very rude staff. Long disorganized queue to get through passport control. People very nearly missed flights due to inadequate service.

Reasonably efficient. Security check are quite crowded and slow.

Totally inefficient bus service to the plane on the return flight to London Stansted. We were forced to wait in a bus for over half an hour in boiling hot temperatures as the passengers who had arrived on our plane were unable to get off because there were no buses to transfer them to the airport.

Hamburg is the oldest airport in Germany. His grand opening took place in 1911. Today, Hamburg is a very modern airport with many amenities. There are two hotels within a short distance from the airport. It is a real metropolis among European airports. It is located 8.5 km northwest of Hamburg city center. In 2009, it served over 12 million passengers. The domestic and international connections are made by regular and low-fare airlines.

Bus
An excellent alternative to travel from / to Hamburg airport, especially during rush hour, is public transport. Travel time between the airport and the city center, depending on the selected bus connection, takes 20-40 minutes. The airport is connected to the city and the region by many bus lines that leave from outside the terminals:

Railway / Metro
The S1, S11 and U1 lines run from the nearest Ohsdorf S-Bahn (underground) and U-Bahn (underground) stations. Between Ohlsdorf station and the airport, the airport bus 110 runs every 10 minutes.
The S1 line runs every 10 minutes between the airport and Hamburg main station, and the journey takes about 25 minutes.
At the Hamburg airport, taxi stands are available in front of all terminals. The trip to the city center takes about 30 minutes and costs about EUR 20. It is worth negotiating prices with taxi drivers.

Hamburg Airport is located between the R2 and R3 byroads of the A433 motorway. Getting to the airport is very simple from various directions:
o Hamburg – the road to the airport already in the city itself is very well marked. Driving from the city is enough to follow road signs;

o Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – A1 and A24 highways, exit Horn of the A24 motorway;
o Niedersachsen – A7 motorway, exit Schnelsen-Nord

Shopping – a number of stores offer a wide range of goods. Travelers can also make purchases at duty-free shops.

Internet – wireless Internet access covers the entire airport area. In addition, there is an Internet cafe at level 2 in Terminal 2.
