    Porto Alegre
    Porto Alegre is a city in southern Brazil, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, set on the Lagoa dos Patos. With a population of more than 3 million, it is an important industrial and cultural centre. Known for churrasco and chimarrão, it is the heart of gaúcho culture. Porto Alegre hosted the first World Social Forum and is famous for its participatory budget.
