    New Orleans
New Orleans, the largest city in Louisiana, lies in the Mississippi Delta, around 150 km from the Gulf of Mexico. It is home to 384 thousand people, and 1.25 million in the metropolitan area. The city is known for its rich history, having been founded by the French in 1718. It is famous for its unique Creole culture, for jazz and for the Mardi Gras festival. In summer temperatures reach 30°C, and the best time to visit is spring or autumn, when the climate is milder. Despite the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina, the city has been reborn and draws visitors once again.
