    Heraklion
    Heraklion is the largest city on Crete and the capital of its regional unit. Located on the island's northern coast, it is the fifth largest city in Greece, with around 140 thousand inhabitants. It lies close to the famous ruins of the palace at Knossos, which makes it an important historic destination. A Mediterranean climate brings mild winters (10-15°C) and hot summers (30°C), and the best times to visit are spring and early autumn. Heraklion attracts visitors with its rich history and beautiful beaches.
