King Shaka International Airport is located in the KwaZulu-Natal province, 30 km from Durban in La Mercy. The airport contains 2 terminals, one for passengers and the other for cargo. In 2012, a little less than 5 million passengers benefited from its services, which is why it is ranked 9th on the list of the busiest airports in Africa.
In 2013, Skytrax announced King Shaka Airport to be the best airport in the world (in the category of serving up to 5 million passengers yearly).
In the year of 2010, the airport substituted: Durban International Airport, which is located less than 50 km south of the current facility. Currently, Durban International Airport infrastructure is used for military purposes.
A few kilometers from the airport there are hotels and Bed and breakfast spots, among others like Fairlight Beach House and de Charmoy Estate Guest House.
